Embracing Our Heroes - Shaping Our World: Educating Servicemembers, Spouses and Families
January 26-29, 2009
Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa
Honolulu, Hawaii
The island of Oahu in Hawaii is the US military hub of the Pacific and Asia. Home of one of the services major
combatant or joint commands, Pacific Command (PACOM), Hawaii contains the highest density of joint forces and
component headquarters for its size in the world. With an area of responsibility covering over 50% of the
world's surface and 60% of its population, the PACOM area of responsibility represents one of the nation's
greatest and most diverse challenges to continuing education of Servicemembers and their families. Vast
distances, dispersed operations, deployments and unique educational circumstances created by these conditions
make Hawaii an educational "center of gravity" for those willing to take on the challenge of providing
educational programs and support to our nation's finest. CCME selected Hawaii as the site for our 2009
conference with these challenges in mind and hopes that our site selection helped all participants better
understand and meet the needs of one of our most difficult military educational environments.
