Council of College and Military Educators 2014 Professional Development Symposium

"Crossroads in Military Education: Looking Back, Moving Forward" will be the theme of the 2014 Council of College and Military Educators (CCME) Professional Development Symposium at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center, in Savannah, Georgia 10-13 February.

Building on the highly successful model of the 2013 Symposium in San Diego, CCME will provide even more training and developmental opportunities for all who attend. Specific skill tracks are being developed to give training in veterans educational benefits, military education programs, transition programs and related topics. Additionally the CCME Professional Development Symposium will have noted speakers providing the latest information on issues in military and veteran education, and programs aiding veterans in their transition to civilian life.

A special emphasis will be placed on the 70th anniversary of the 22 June 1944 signing into law by President Franklin Roosevelt of the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, commonly known as the G.I. Bill. CCME intends this to be a national celebration of that historic event and the millions of lives that have been changed by this law and the subsequent GI Bills that have followed. To quote President Roosevelt at the time of his signing of the law, "It gives emphatic notice to the men and women in our armed forces that the American people do not intend to let them down". Throughout the Professional Development Symposium we expect to have noted speakers on veterans programs and examples of how it has changed lives. Jessica Lynch, the Iraq War veteran whose captured and subsequent rescue by American forces became the pride of our nation, will be speaking on her experiences as a woman at war and the subsequent support the GI Bill has given her as she transitioned to civilian life. As the CCME Professional Development Symposium program develops, we expect additional world-class speakers to make this the 2014 military and veteran education training experience not to miss!

Plans are also being made for some excellent opportunities for networking and team building. The annual CCME awards dinner will have a World War II theme including the chance to enjoy the music of that era, dress in vintage costume and show how you can "jitterbug". We also, once again, have the Veterans Artist Program exhibiting and a golf tournament to raise money for a local veterans charity.
